For more than 25 years, I have been the strategic mind in rooms where decisions carry consequences. I think like a general, listen like a journalist, and write like a woman who holds both vision and purpose. A crisis communications architect and reputation manager who knows how to steady the ground when it shifts and shape the story before someone else does. I move people from grassroots to government because I understand that every audience has a frequency. The right message, delivered with precision and purpose, hits it every time.
My career record spans the gamut of public service and speaks in rooms most people only read about. I have counseled the late human rights champion and twice presidential candidate Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Congressman Bobby L. Rush, Atty. Johnnie Cochran, Rev. Dr. Albert Sampson, two Illinois governors, and a spectrum of leaders across labor, faith, the arts, public policy, law, and media. I put the Chicago Teachers Union on the national map and turned a struggling union into an organizing and political powerhouse under the leadership of the late Karen GJ Lewis. I ran high-level corporate PR and advertising campaigns as a senior account manager for such clients as Harris Bank, the Illinois Lottery, McDonald’s, and Nielsen at R.J. Dale Advertising & Public Relations, one of the nation’s premier African American firms. I have worked with actors and hip-hop artists, such as producing the Wu-Tang Clan Fest of the 12 Jewels, and with revolutionaries fighting to change our world.
My work combines high-level strategic thinking, creativity, and precision to secure short- and long-term results. I’ve traveled and worked across the United States, Africa, Europe, and Brazil. My community named me “The People’s Press Secretary” for always showing up when needed and doing what must be done without cost to anyone. High-powered players called me “a brilliant and strategic mind.” I call it knowing your audience, understanding the goal, and caring enough to tell the people the truth.
I am also an award-winning author and journalist. Winner of the Zora Neale Hurston-Bessie Head Prize for Fiction, my creative work spans literary, audio, and visual worlds. I am the author of award-winning plays, screenplays, short stories, and sketch comedy. I am a filmmaker, producer, director, and founder of the Nommo Writers Collective, a Black literary arts organization focused on the craft of telling our Diaspora stories. The creative work and the strategy are not two separate lives. They are the same life, lived at full range. I founded Abundant PR and Entertainment in Chicago in 2010 because strategy without soul is just noise. The people and causes worth representing deserve strategic thinking, creativity, loyalty, and execution — and a communicator fearless enough to stand in the fire with them until the work is done.
